About Rock Paper Scissors

Rock Paper Scissors descends from hand games played in China nearly two thousand years ago and refined in Japan as jan-ken; it became the world's favourite way to settle small disputes because it is perfectly balanced — every choice beats one option, loses to another, and draws with itself. There is no dominant strategy, which is exactly why it never gets old.

Here you face the computer in quick-fire rounds. Pick Rock, Paper or Scissors and, after a short suspense animation, the computer's choice is revealed and the result added to your running Wins, Draws and Losses tally. There is no round limit and no match point — it is an endless scoreboard duel, so you can play three rounds over coffee or three hundred, then reset the scores whenever you want a clean slate.

How to Play Rock Paper Scissors

1

Look at the three choice buttons: Rock ✊, Paper ✋ and Scissors ✌️.

2

Click the one you want to throw. Your choice appears on the left of the arena while the computer "thinks".

3

After a brief animation the computer's random choice is revealed on the right: Rock crushes Scissors, Scissors cut Paper, Paper covers Rock.

4

The result banner declares a win, loss or draw and the tally at the top updates instantly.

5

Pick again to play the next round — there is no fixed number of rounds. Use Reset Scores to zero the tally.

Tips & Tricks

  • 💡The computer's throw is generated by a true random pick each round, so no pattern exists to exploit — any "system" is superstition.
  • 💡Because the pick is random, your long-run record should settle near one third wins, one third draws, one third losses; short streaks are just variance.
  • 💡If you enjoy the psychology of the human game, play 2-player style with a friend calling throws aloud first — the computer itself has no tells to read.
  • 💡Chase streaks for fun rather than profit: switching after losses and staying after wins feels strategic, but against random throws neither changes your odds.

Rock Paper Scissors — Frequently Asked Questions

Is the computer's choice really random?+

Yes. Each round the computer picks uniformly at random from Rock, Paper and Scissors after you have committed your throw, so it cannot react to your choice and no pattern can be learned.

Is there a match winner or a best-of series?+

No — play is open-ended. Every throw simply updates your Wins, Draws and Losses counters, and you decide when to stop or reset. Some players set their own target, such as first to 10 wins, and keep score against the tally.

What are the exact odds of winning a round?+

Whatever you throw, the computer has a 1 in 3 chance of throwing the move you beat, a 1 in 3 chance of matching you for a draw, and a 1 in 3 chance of beating you — perfectly balanced, every round.

Does it work on mobile?+

Yes. The three choice buttons are large tap targets, and the whole game is pointer-based, so it plays identically on touch screens.
