Frequently Asked Questions
Does compression reduce image quality?
Some quality loss occurs with JPG and WebP compression, but at 70% quality or higher it is rarely noticeable to the eye. PNG is lossless but does not compress as much.
What quality should I use?
For web images, 60–75% is a good balance of size and quality. For photos you want to keep, use 80–90%. Start at 70% and adjust.
Why is my compressed file larger than the original?
If the original was already heavily compressed, re-compressing can increase size. Try a lower quality setting or a different output format (WebP usually compresses best).
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. All compression happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device.
Is there a file size limit?
There is no hard limit, but very large images may be slow on low-powered devices. For best results, use images under 20MB.
