Exponent Calculator
Compute powers with any base and exponent.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a negative exponent mean?
It means take the reciprocal: 2^-3 = 1 / 2^3 = 0.125. Negative exponents do not make the result negative; they make it a fraction between zero and one for positive bases.
What is a fractional exponent?
It represents a root: 9^(1/2) is the square root of 9, which is 3, and 8^(2/3) means cube-root 8 then square it, giving 4. This links exponents directly to roots and logarithms.
Why is anything to the power 0 equal to 1?
Because of the division rule for exponents: x^a / x^a = x^(a-a) = x^0, and any non-zero number divided by itself is 1. The only exception is 0^0, which is undefined.
Is the Exponent Calculator free, and is my data private?
Yes. It is completely free and every calculation runs locally in your browser, so the numbers and dates you enter are never uploaded, stored, or shared with anyone.
