Credit Card Validator

Check a card number's Luhn checksum, brand and length. Format validation only, 100% in your browser.

🔒 Privacy: validation runs entirely in your browser using the Luhn algorithm. Nothing is typed into a server, stored, or sent anywhere. This tool checks number format only — it cannot tell whether a real account exists or has funds.

Try a public test number

These are the payment industry's published test numbers (from Stripe/Adyen documentation). They are not real accounts — click one to fill the validator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this validator actually check?

Three things: the Luhn (mod-10) checksum embedded in every card number, whether the starting digits (the IIN/BIN) match a known card brand's ranges, and whether the total length matches that brand. It validates number format only.

Can it tell me if a card is real or has money?

No — and no website can do that from the number alone without processing a transaction through a payment network. A passing number can still be cancelled, expired or invented; a failing number is definitely typed wrong.

Is it safe to type a card number here?

The check runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript; nothing is transmitted or stored. Even so, best practice is to use it for test numbers and debugging payment forms, not for sharing real card details anywhere online.

What is the Luhn algorithm?

A checksum invented by Hans Peter Luhn in 1954. Every second digit is doubled (subtracting 9 if the result exceeds 9), all digits are summed, and a valid number's total is a multiple of 10. It catches any single-digit error and most transposed digits.
