Frequently Asked Questions
Why do minimum payments take so long?
Minimum payments are usually a small percentage of the balance, so they shrink as the balance falls. Most of an early minimum payment is interest, which stretches payoff over many years.
How is the payoff simulated?
Month by month: interest is charged on the current balance at APR/12, then your fixed payment is subtracted. The loop repeats until the balance reaches zero, summing all interest charged.
What is the fastest way to clear card debt?
Pay a fixed amount well above the minimum, stop new spending on the card, and consider paying the highest-APR card first (the avalanche method) to minimise total interest.
Is the Credit Card Payoff Calculator free, and is my data private?
Yes. It is completely free and every calculation runs locally in your browser, so the numbers and dates you enter are never uploaded, stored, or shared with anyone.
