How to Convert Images Without Losing Quality
JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF — every format trades size against quality differently. This guide explains which format to pick for photos, screenshots, logos and web graphics, and how to convert between them in your browser without uploading anything to a server.
Pick the right format first
Use JPG for photographs — its lossy compression keeps files small at quality 80–90 with no visible difference. Use PNG for screenshots, logos and anything with sharp edges or transparency, because PNG is lossless. WebP and AVIF beat both on size (often 25–40% smaller at the same visual quality) and are supported by every modern browser, which makes them ideal for websites.
Convert in the browser, not on a server
Most online converters upload your file to a stranger’s server. Browser-based converters like the Vimzify Image Converter decode and re-encode the file locally with the Canvas API and dedicated codecs, so private photos never leave your device — and conversion is usually faster, too.
A simple quality checklist
Convert from the original, never from an already-converted copy (each lossy conversion stacks up damage). Keep a PNG master of important graphics. After converting, zoom to 100% and check edges and gradients for blocky artefacts before you delete the source.
