Frequently Asked Questions
Which YAML features are supported?
Keyβvalue pairs, nested mappings by indentation, lists with dashes, inline flow lists like [1, 2], quoted strings, numbers, booleans and null, plus comments starting with #.
What is not supported?
Anchors and aliases (&a / *a), multi-line block scalars (| and >), tags, and multiple documents (---) are not supported. For complex YAML, use a full parser library such as js-yaml.
Are values typed?
Yes. Unquoted values that look like numbers, true/false or null become JSON numbers, booleans and null. Quote a value to force it to stay a string.
Why convert YAML to JSON?
JSON is natively understood by JavaScript and most APIs, so converting config files makes them usable in code, validators and online formatters.
