How do I add VAT to a price?
Multiply the net price by (1 + rate/100). At a 20 percent VAT rate, a net price of 100 becomes 120 including VAT, and the VAT amount is 20.
How do I remove VAT from a gross price?
Divide the gross amount by (1 + rate/100) to get the net amount. Dividing by 1.20 (for 20 percent VAT) is not the same as subtracting 20 percent of the gross price.
What VAT rates are common?
Standard rates vary by country: 20 percent in the UK, 19 percent in Germany, 21 percent in Spain and 25 percent in much of Scandinavia, with reduced rates for essentials in many places.
