Slope, line equation, distance and midpoint of two points.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is slope calculated?

Slope is rise over run: (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1). Between (1, 2) and (4, 8) the rise is 6 and the run is 3, giving a slope of 2 – the line climbs two units for every unit across.

What does a negative or zero slope mean?

A negative slope means the line falls as x increases. Zero slope is a horizontal line. A vertical line has undefined slope because the run is zero, and division by zero is impossible.

How do I get the full line equation?

Use slope-intercept form y = mx + b. Find the slope m first, then substitute one point to solve for b, the height where the line crosses the y-axis.

Is the Slope Calculator free, and is my data private?

Yes. It is completely free and every calculation runs locally in your browser, so the numbers and dates you enter are never uploaded, stored, or shared with anyone.
