Frequently Asked Questions
How do you simplify a ratio?
Divide both sides by their greatest common divisor. The ratio 4:6 simplifies to 2:3 because both numbers divide by 2. The relationship stays identical, just in smaller whole numbers.
How is a ratio different from a fraction?
A ratio compares part to part (2 boys to 3 girls), while a fraction compares part to whole (2/5 of the class). This tool shows both views: simplified parts and each part as a percentage share.
How do I scale a ratio to a total?
Add the ratio parts, divide the target total by that sum to get one part’s value, then multiply each part. A 2:3 recipe scaled to 100 g gives 40 g and 60 g.
Is the Ratio Calculator free, and is my data private?
Yes. It is completely free and every calculation runs locally in your browser, so the numbers and dates you enter are never uploaded, stored, or shared with anyone.
