Hash Generator
Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 hashes from any text using Web Crypto.
SHA hashes use the browser's native Web Crypto API. MD5 is computed locally and is shown for legacy use only — MD5 is cryptographically broken and should not be used for security.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a hash?
A hash is a fixed-size fingerprint computed from input data. The same input always produces the same hash, but you cannot reverse a hash back to its input.
Which hash should I use?
For security (passwords, integrity checks), use SHA-256 or stronger. SHA-1 and MD5 are broken and should only be used for legacy checksums or non-security purposes.
Are these hashes computed securely?
SHA-1/256/384/512 use the browser native Web Crypto API. MD5 is computed with a local implementation. Nothing is sent to a server.
Can I hash files?
This tool hashes text. For file hashing, paste the file contents as text. Binary file hashing is not supported here.
