Binary Calculator
Binary arithmetic plus decimal, octal and hex conversions.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is binary addition different from decimal?
Each column holds only 0 or 1, so 1 + 1 = 10 in binary: write 0 and carry 1 to the next column, exactly like carrying in decimal when a column passes 9.
How do you convert decimal to binary?
Repeatedly divide by 2 and record the remainders. The remainders read from bottom to top are the binary digits: 42 divides down to remainders giving 101010.
Why do programmers use hexadecimal?
Each hex digit represents exactly four binary digits, so long binary strings compress neatly: 11111111 becomes FF. Memory addresses and colour codes are much easier to read in hex.
Is the Binary Calculator free, and is my data private?
Yes. It is completely free and every calculation runs locally in your browser, so the numbers and dates you enter are never uploaded, stored, or shared with anyone.
