Add Line Numbers
Number every line of your text with a custom start, separator and zero-padding.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I start numbering from a value other than 1?
Yes. Set any starting number, including 0 or negative values, and numbering increments by one from there.
What does zero padding do?
Padding formats numbers with leading zeros, so 1, 2, 3 become 001, 002, 003. This keeps lists aligned and sorts correctly as text.
Can I skip blank lines?
Yes. Enable "skip blank lines" and empty lines are left unnumbered and do not consume a number.
Where is this useful?
Numbering lines helps with transcripts, meeting notes, code reviews, vocabulary lists and any document you reference line by line.
