About Minesweeper
Minesweeper was popularised by Microsoft Windows in 1990, but its roots run back to early mainframe logic games — and its appeal is pure deduction. Unlike most puzzle games, a well-played Minesweeper board is solved by reasoning, not reflexes: every number is a small logic statement about its eight neighbours, and chains of those statements can clear whole regions without a single guess.
This implementation offers three fields: Easy (8×8 with 10 mines), Medium (10×10 with 20 mines) and Hard (12×12 with 35 mines). The board is generated only when you make your first click, and that click — plus all eight cells around it — is guaranteed mine-free, so you always open with a useful patch of information. Empty regions flood-open automatically, the header tracks how many mines remain unflagged (total mines minus flags placed), and clearing every safe cell wins the game. There is deliberately no timer: this is a thinking game.
How to Play Minesweeper
Choose Easy, Medium or Hard. The field starts blank — it is generated around your first click, which is always safe along with its neighbours.
Left-click a cell to reveal it. A number tells you exactly how many of the surrounding eight cells hide mines; a blank cell opens its whole empty region automatically.
Right-click a cell to plant or remove a flag where you believe a mine sits. The counter in the header shows mines minus flags.
Use intersecting numbers to prove cells safe or mined: a "1" touching exactly one covered cell means that cell is certainly a mine.
Reveal every non-mine cell to win. Click a mine and all mines are exposed and the game is lost — press the reset face to deal a fresh field.

Tips & Tricks
- 💡Learn the basic patterns: a 1-2-1 along a straight edge means mines under the two 1s' outer cells and safety in the middle pattern's completion — patterns, not single numbers, are the real language of the game.
- 💡Flag with discipline and then "chord" mentally: when a number's flagged neighbours equal the number, every other neighbour is provably safe and can be clicked immediately.
- 💡When two numbers disagree about a shared cell, subtract them — if one clue's region contains another's, the difference tells you exactly which outer cells are mined.
- 💡True 50/50 guesses do occur, mostly on Hard. Guess as late as possible, prefer cells that are also constrained by another number, and never guess while provable moves remain elsewhere.
Minesweeper — Frequently Asked Questions
Can the first click ever be a mine?+
Never. The minefield is generated after your first click, with the clicked cell and all eight neighbours excluded from mining, so every game opens with a revealed area to reason from.
How big are the three difficulties?+
Easy is an 8×8 grid with 10 mines, Medium is 10×10 with 20 mines, and Hard is 12×12 with 35 mines — a mine density that climbs from about 16% to about 24%.
How do I flag on a phone or tablet?+
Flagging currently uses the right mouse button, so it is a desktop feature. Touch players can still complete boards by deduction alone — flags are a memory aid, never a requirement for winning.
Is there a timer or score?+
No — this version is deliberately untimed and unscored. Winning means revealing every safe cell; the challenge is a clean solve, especially on Hard.
